We know it’s a cliché but the truth remains…. Placing all of your accounts with one PEO is a recipe for your financial disaster. In the last few years we have spoken with many independent PEO brokers who have placed all of their accounts with one PEO and then that PEO went out of business. Years of relationship building and revenue generation goes up in smoke overnight…. and is almost impossible to recover since the brokers credibility with the client has evaporated. Independent brokers in this situation thought they had a “strong personal relationship” with their PEO and that they would be “in the loop” if there were any problems with the PEO. All of them failed to realize that the last thing a PEO in trouble will do is tell their brokers. PEOs realize that letting that information out will ensure the failure of the PEO since the brokers will instantly look for alternate solutions. Since most PEOs are privately held companies, getting reliable financial statements is difficult and few PEOs will make audited financial results available to brokers or the public.
